January 2023 Update

Dear CECC Members,

We hope you all had a wonderful and restful holiday season.  We wanted to welcome the membership to 2023 and report on the activity and progress over the past few months.

Mark your calendars for the Annual Meeting which will be held Thursday, March 23 at 6:30 pm.  At this meeting we will also hold elections.  All of the current Executive Board has expressed interest in running for a second term in their current positions to see the current efforts to completion.  If you are interested in running for the Executive Board please reach out to us at [email protected].  Most of our current committee heads are also wanting to stay on for a second term, with the exception of our social committee head, Katie McCann.  She will be consumed with taking care of a busy toddler and a sweet newborn!  If you are interested in being the social committee chair please reach out to us at [email protected].

The Social committee has done an amazing job this past year planning many fun social activities to bring the neighborhood together!  First Friday’s have been a hit, and we look forward to continuing them in 2023.  Our next First Friday will be this Friday, February 3rd from 5-7. Drinks are BYOB, bring an appetizer to share and for February chili will be provided.  Also, mark your calendars for the Annual Oyster Roast.  It will be held Sunday, March 26, from 4-7 pm.  We will also have BBQ with all the fixings, oysters and live music.  We look forward to seeing everyone there.

The ByLaws committee has been hard at work meeting bi-weekly and often weekly over the past 9 months.  They are actively preparing to meet with our attorney one last time to review language and make sure our new draft ByLaws are compliant with South Carolina state law.  The committee is hoping to present the new document to the board within the next month.  Once the board has reviewed the new ByLaws they will be presented to the membership for discussion and finally a vote. If you have any questions regarding the new ByLaws please reach out to us at [email protected].

The Membership committee has been working on automating much of the back office and utilizing a membership software called Membership Works.  This will allow the club to better manage members and their information.  Households will be able to create their own accounts and profiles as well as update contact information as necessary.  This software will integrate with our website and minimize human error when it comes to maintaining all of the member data.  The Membership committee has also created a Welcome to CECC Folder.  This folder will be given to new members when they join and will contain a welcome letter, a copy of the ByLaws, the rules and regulations of the landing, as well as their gate card and sticker (if applicable).  The long term goal is to eventually present this folder to new members along with a tour of the landing.  If you would like to help out with the membership committee and welcome new members into the club please reach out to us at [email protected].

Finally the Boat Ramp committee update! This committee has been active, however we are still awaiting the final decision on permits. The Charleston District Corps of Engineers has assigned our project a number and a project manager.  The Corps of Engineers have made a decision on how they will permit the dock and the ramp. The ramp will be permitted with a Nationwide permit (and will not need to go on public notice) while the dock will be permitted as a modification to the original permit (and will go on public notice).  The good news is the ramp permit should come in before the dock permit.  Unfortunately we are still awaiting the OCRM permit as well, so it will not save us too much time.  We are hoping for a winter 2023/2024 install date for the ramp, however, at this time we are at the mercy of the permitting process.

A couple quick housekeeping notes.  Please make sure if you have any gatherings, scheduled or unscheduled you leave the shelter, fire pit area and landing as you found it. Also, any minor children need to be accompanied by an adult at the landing after dark.

Dues are due March 1st and are $250.  There are three ways in which you can pay.  They are as follows:

1.  Pay online at https://cooperestates.org/membership/.  The total cost for this method is $259.48 because it includes a PayPal processing fee.
2. Mail a check payable to Cooper Estates Civic Club for $250.  If the address on your check is different than your Cooper Estates address please put your Cooper Estates address on the memo line.
Cooper Estates Civic Club
P.O. Box 1408

3.Drop a check in the black mailbox on the shelter post at the landing.

As always please reach out to us at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to get involved!  We look forward to seeing everyone next Friday, for February’s First Friday event!
